There was a lady and her daughter stranded on the interstate yesterday. My family and I were headed to Jamestown to welcome a dog into our family. To those not familiar with North Dakota, it’s about 90-100 miles between Bismarck and Jamestown. Anyway, we were headed east and I noticed a van on the west bound shoulder that looked like they were broke down because their hood was up and someone was looking at the engine. At the time, I didn’t turn around and didn’t know it was just women.
I would say, about 3 hours later we were headed back west to Bismarck with our new family member. So, there are 6 of us and a good sized dog in our van. Sure enough, this broke down van was still on the shoulder in the middle of nowhere. Well, we were in the hammer lane and I saw the van and what appeared to be two people sitting in the front. I went to the next exit, turned around, went to the following exit and turned around then; watched for the broke down van on the shoulder. I pulled over and checked on these folks. As I mentioned, it turned out to be a mother and an adult daughter. I asked if they had help coming and what was wrong. A belt had broken. They said that the Dad was on his way but, he was up in northern Minnesota. Now, where we were is probably around 125 miles from the Minnesota line and, this man was up further in northern Minnesota.
I offered to take these two women to the next town which is roughly 35 miles away. They said they would wait. I asked them if they had water and they said yes. Now, I can’t make someone accept help so, I wished them luck and left feeling bad for them. I told them I had my wife, 4 kids, and a dog in our van but, we could make it work. Oh well, such is life and it keeps going as it will. ~b
